Book Review
When I first started doubting the faith I’d grown up with, Into the Abyss by Mo Thomas felt like a lifeline—a gentle invitation to ask the hard questions I’d buried for years. As someone wrestling with whether God could still matter in a world offering so many other convincing options, I found Mo’s journey from rigid belief to expansive wonder both relatable and freeing. He dives into the mysteries of quantum physics—where particles dance in infinite possibilities—and pairs them with Jesus’ words, like “the kingdom of God is within you.” Suddenly, my doubts weren’t roadblocks but doorways, pointing me toward a True Identity far bigger than the rules I’d been taught.
What impacted me the most was how Mo weaves science and spirituality into a single thread, showing they’re not enemies but allies in revealing who we really are. He unpacks how modern discoveries, like the first pictures of a Black Hole from April 2019, and the jaw-dropping reality of entanglement (interconnectedness), echo Jesus’ call to love and unity, stripping away the fear-based layers I’d clung to for most of my life. Through personal stories and contemplative insights, Into the Abyss doesn’t just answer questions—it redefines them, urging me to see myself as part of an infinite, divine reality. If I would only have the part about his magical, mystical experience of traveling into a Black Hole, the book would have been worth it!
For the first time, I’m not afraid to question, because I’m discovering a God—and a self—worth trusting.
